Directions to Providence from the North- Google map says 93 thru Boston, then 95?

Am I better off staying on 95 around the west side of Boston?Directions to Providence from the North- Google map says 93 thru Boston, then 95?
Where are you coming from?

I would suggest avoiding 93 because that goes through downtown Boston. 95 skirts the outside of Boston and can save both time and frustration. But the traffic on 95 (aka Route 128), can be pretty heavy, and if there is an accident, there could be significant backups. So if you are coming from New Hampshire or Maine, another option to consider is 495. That is a bit longer, but the traffic is lighter and therefore moves more smoothly.
To quote a line from Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson" (film: "The Graduate"). "Laugh about it, shout about it, when you've got to choose, every way you look at it, you lose".. Have a safe trip.

Added 12/7 2247Est - I-495 is an option, however it is longer and, depending on traffic, may not offer any benefit. Face it, you can't win, you can't break even, and you can't quit the game. Sorry!

Either is fine. Choose whatever one is more comfortable for you. The most direct is 93 through Boston to 95. It also depends on the time of day your are going. During rush hours morning and evening both are heavy trafficDirections to Providence from the North- Google map says 93 thru Boston, then 95?
Staying on 95 only adds about 5 miles to the trip as opposed to cutting through Boston on 93. If you're going when traffic will be slower take 93. Otherwise head out to 95.
