Is google maps a reliable source for Subway stops for NYC?

im going to NYC for the summer, and i will be using the subway a lot. i really don't like asking for directions so instead im trying to plan ahead by thinking of all the places i want to go, and writing down the subway 'letters' or 'stops' [don't know the proper term]. but, i am aware sites such as map quest can be retarded, so im not sure if google maps in reliable.

any advice or tips?Is google maps a reliable source for Subway stops for NYC?
Very smart of you to figure these things out in advance.

Google Maps works. There's another site that's been giving NYC public transit directions longer: www.hopstop.com (also will show you an estimate of taxi fare for a given trip if you decide not to take the subway).

Once you get here, make sure you check www.mta.info before embarking on any weekend or late-night subway trips, in case of temporary construction detours.
Yes, they are very good.

You can also view the current MTA (official subway system) maps here:

Basically, figure out where you plan on going and get an idea for the main routes each line follows that stops near your stops. Also, plan on walking a bit between stops -- NYC is made for walking. Is google maps a reliable source for Subway stops for NYC?
Don't use google maps for the subway. There is a better website: Hopstop.com

And the transit authority has a pretty good website as well.

But don't be afraid to ask directions. You may need to. It's foolish not to ask, especially since most New Yorkers love giving directions. You'll find a lot of people will want to help you find your way.Is google maps a reliable source for Subway stops for NYC?
When you get to NY, get a subway map. They are free and can be had at any subway station that has a clerk on duty. Also, the concierge at your hotel may have copies (or can easily get one for you).

There are maps available on-line to to advance planning. But nothing is as convenient as the neat fold-up map issued by the MTA.

But you should be aware that schedules can change - its quite common for there to be schedule changes on weekends, and these are always posted at the affected subway stations.
