Do I really need to Kayak to Hawaii before Kayaking to Japan using Google Maps Directions?

Can't I just Kayak to Japan from Washington to make the trip shorter?|||See, that's what happens when you rely on those darn Google Map programs! And if you follow the directions as given, you're likely to wind up in New Zealand!
